Scottish by birth, Gordon Ramsay grew up in Stratford-upon-Avon, England. He initially aspired to be a professional soccer player, but an injury led him to pursue a culinary career instead.
Throughout his early career, Ramsay trained under world-renowned chefs such as Albert Roux and Marco Pierre White in England and Guy Savoy and Joël Robuchon in France.
Restaurant Ventures
At the age of 31, he set up his first wholly-owned restaurant, Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, which quickly received the respected three Michelin stars. Internationally renowned, Ramsay further expanded his restaurant empire to include locations in London, Las Vegas, Singapore, Baltimore, Europe, and Dubai.
Television Show Appearances
Aside from his culinary ventures, Ramsay also became a television personality, starring in successful shows in both the UK and US. Some of his popular shows include Gordon, Gino & Fred on ITV, Gordon Ramsay's Bank Balance on BBC, and FOX's MasterChef, MasterChef Junior, Hell's Kitchen, 24 Hours to Hell and Back, as well as National Geographic's Gordon Ramsay: Uncharted.
Other Interests
Ramsay has also ventured into online education through his MasterClass, a mobile puzzle game, "Chef Blast with Gordon Ramsay", and an entertaining YouTube channel. He features a variety of cooking formats on his channel, including his well-received series "Ramsay in 10" and "Scrambled". He often shares his love for TikTok through videos with his daughter Tilly.
Acknowledgements and Charity Work
In 2006, in acknowledgment of his contributions to the culinary world, Ramsay was awarded an Order of the British Empire (OBE) by Queen Elizabeth II. Along with his wife, Tana, Ramsay set up the Gordon and Tana Ramsay Foundation in 2014. Through the Foundation, they are committed to making a meaningful difference for the London-based children's hospital, Great Ormond Street.
