Bret Contreras, PhD, CSCS,*D, widely recognized as the Glute Guy, has made significant contributions to the strength and conditioning industry, particularly in glute development. He is best known for inventing the barbell hip thrust exercise in 2006 and has since introduced numerous glute exercises to the fitness community. Contreras earned his PhD in sport science from the Auckland University of Technology in New Zealand in 2015, studying under biomechanics expert John Cronin. His research includes conducting various electromyography experiments.

As a former owner of Lifts Studio in Scottsdale, Arizona, and the current owner of Glute Lab in San Diego, California, Contreras has worked with a diverse clientele, from sedentary individuals to elite athletes. He has developed glute-strengthening machines such as the Skorcher and the Hip Thruster, which are sold through his company BC Strength, along with other glute training products. Contreras is also a distinguished lecturer, presenting at numerous conferences, including those hosted by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). He has authored bestselling books, including Glute Lab and Bodyweight Strength Training Anatomy, and has contributed to various industry publications.
