James Mawdsley was born in 1973, in Lancashire, England. A significant period of his life was marked by 17 months of solitary confinement as a prisoner of conscience in Burma between 1998 and 2000. It was during this time that he received a Bible, which not only transformed his cell from “hell to heaven”, but also ignited a lifelong passion for studying scripture.
From 2003 to 2004, Mawdsley served as the Secretariat to the British-North Korean All-Party Parliamentary Group. He sat in on high-level political and military meetings in Pyongyang and London, having the opportunity to interact with former prisoners and guards who had defected. His primary goal during these negotiations was to challenge the North Korean government about their gulag system.
However, Mawdsley gradually started to realize the helplessness of political endeavors to conquer evil, and the necessity to recognize Jesus Christ as the 'King of Kings'. It was on 3rd September 2005 that he received a clear call to the priesthood. 'Fr' Mawdsley was ordained as a Catholic priest in 2016, and made the decision to only celebrate the traditional Roman rite.
His literary work, the "New Old" book series, hosts a unique discovery of Jesus Christ in the Old Testament, read in the light of the New Testament. This series aims to offer spiritual nourishment as well as to address the problem of evil; personal evil signified by our sin, the global evil that surrounds us, and the cosmic evil embodied by Satan. The Latin phrase "Christus vincit!" which translates to "Christ conquers!" concludes his biography.
