George A. Bonanno is a Professor of Clinical Psychology and Chair of the Department of Counseling and Clinical Psychology at Columbia University's Teachers College. His research focuses on various potentially traumatic events, including terrorist attacks, disasters, wars, assaults, life-threatening injuries, and bio-epidemics, as well as challenging life experiences such as bereavement, divorce, and job loss. Bonanno's work has consistently demonstrated that humans are generally resilient in the face of adversity, challenging traditional views on trauma and recovery.

In recognition of his contributions to the field, Bonanno has received lifetime achievement awards from several prestigious organizations, including the Association for Psychological Science (APS), the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies (ISTSS), and the International Positive Psychology Association (IPPA). He is also an accomplished author, with notable works such as 'The Other Side of Sadness: What the New Science of Bereavement Tells Us About Life After Loss' and 'The End of Trauma: How the New Science of Resilience Is Changing How We Think About PTSD.' Bonanno resides in Manhattan and Woodstock, NY, with his wife, Paulette Roberts.
