George A. Bonanno is a Professor of Clinical Psychology and Chair of the Department of Counseling and Clinical Psychology at Columbia University's Teachers College. His research focuses on various potentially traumatic events, including terrorist attacks, disasters, wars, assaults, life-threatening injuries, and bio-epidemics, as well as challenging life experiences such as bereavement, divorce, and job loss. Bonanno's work has consistently demonstrated that humans are generally resilient in the face of adversity, challenging traditional views on trauma and recovery.

In recognition of his contributions to the field, Bonanno has received lifetime achievement awards from several prestigious organizations, including the Association for Psychological Science (APS), the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies (ISTSS), and the International Positive Psychology Association (IPPA).
