Dr. Daniel Joseph Tomasulo is an American counseling psychologist, writer, and professor, currently serving as the Academic Director and core faculty at the Spirituality Mind Body Institute (SMBI) at Teachers College, Columbia University. He holds a Ph.D. in psychology, an MFA in writing, and a Master of Applied Positive Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Tomasulo has also been recognized as a Review Editor for Frontiers in Psychology's special section on Positive Psychology and The Journal of Positive Psychology. In 2021, he received the Teaching Award from Teachers College, Columbia University.
A prominent figure in the field of positive psychology, Dr. Tomasulo is known for his award-winning memoir, 'American Snake Pit,' which recounts the first experimental group home releasing inmates from the infamous Willowbrook asylum. His recent book, 'Learned Hopefulness: The Power of Positivity to Overcome Depression,' has garnered praise from notable figures such as Deepak Chopra and Martin Seligman. Dr. Tomasulo is a sought-after international speaker on topics related to positive psychology and has won multiple awards for his innovative approaches, including the International Positive Psychology Association's Avant-Garde Clinical Intervention competition.
