Tricia Hersey is a Chicago native with over 20 years of experience as a multidisciplinary artist, writer, theologian, and community organizer. She is best known as the founder of The Nap Ministry, an organization that explores rest as a form of resistance and reparations. Through community rest activations, immersive workshops, performance art installations, and social media, Hersey curates spaces for the community to engage in rest.
Her research interests encompass Black liberation theology, womanism, somatics, and cultural trauma. In October 2022, she published the New York Times bestselling book 'Rest is Resistance,' which further articulates her advocacy for rest as a critical social and racial justice issue. Additionally, Hersey is recognized for her work as a poet and performance artist, often referred to as the Nap Bishop.
