Jay E. Adams (1929-2020) was a pastor, church planter, denominational executive, seminary professor, author, and lecturer known for his significant contributions to the field of biblical counseling. He taught homiletics at Westminster Theological Seminary in Philadelphia and served as the Director of Advanced Studies at Westminster Seminary in California. Adams founded several influential organizations, including the Christian Counseling and Educational Foundation (CCEF), the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors, and the Institute for Nouthetic Studies.

Adams authored over 100 books, with his best-selling work, 'Competent to Counsel,' playing a pivotal role in launching the modern biblical counseling movement. His writings addressed various aspects of Christian counseling and practical theology, establishing him as a leading voice in the field. He was also honored with The Order of the Palmetto, the highest civilian award in South Carolina, recognizing his impact and contributions to the community.
