Gail Weatherill is a Registered Nurse and board-certified Alzheimer's Educator with a career spanning over four decades in various healthcare settings. Her experience includes roles such as an intensive care head nurse in Saudi Arabia and Director of Nursing in a Virginia nursing home. For the past twenty years, she has concentrated on the care of individuals living with dementia and the education of their caregivers, adopting the professional persona of The Dementia Nurse. Gail's unique perspective stems from her ability to empathize deeply with both dementia patients and their loved ones, shaped by her personal experience as a family caregiver.
Gail advocates for caregivers, addressing the shortcomings of the healthcare system in supporting those who provide 24/7 care. She has been active in movements such as Nurses Take DC, promoting safe staffing ratios in hospitals and long-term care facilities. Through her writing, speaking engagements, and coaching, she aims to educate dementia caregivers 'one heart at a time.' Gail also manages a closed caregiver support group on Facebook, which has grown to 50,000 members from over 100 countries, highlighting the global need for caregiver support. In addition to her advocacy work, Gail enjoys reading, sewing fidget quilts, and spending time with her cat, Baby Silas, in Charlottesville, VA.
