Bill George is an American businessman and academic, currently serving as an executive fellow at Harvard Business School. He has been a Professor of Management Practice and Senior Fellow teaching leadership since 2004. George previously held the position of chairman and chief executive officer of Medtronic, where he worked from 1989 to 2001, and served as board chair from 1996 to 2002. His earlier career included senior executive roles at Honeywell and Litton Industries, as well as service in the U.S. Department of Defense.
An accomplished author, Bill George has written several influential books on leadership, including 'Discover Your True North,' 'Authentic Leadership,' and '7 Lessons for Leading in Crisis.' He has also contributed to various publications such as CNBC, Fortune Magazine, and The Wall Street Journal. His leadership and contributions have been recognized with numerous awards, including the Bower Award for Business Leadership from the Franklin Institute in 2014 and election to the National Academy of Engineering in 2012. George holds a BSIE from Georgia Tech and an MBA from Harvard University, along with several honorary PhDs.
